ORGANISATION
Parish Council Community
organisational matters are dealt with by the Parish Council, led by Fr.
Wiesław. The Chairperson of the Council is Mr. Kazik Stepan. Other
members of the Council look after financial matters, organise CCD,
co-ordinate Eucharistic Ministers, produce the Bulletin and have
various other duties. Members of the Parish Council are either
volunteers or have been elected to their posts. If you feel that there
is a role you can fill on the Parish Council, if there is a function
you think should form part of the Council, or if you would like to
volunteer to help with any aspect of the Council’s work, please speak
to the Chairman, Mr. Kazik Stepan
Some of Polish Church Laws Please read this information as certain practices may differ from your home country.
- We are not allowed to have lay female Extraordinary Eucharistic Ministers
- It
remains the rule in Poland that meat cannot be eaten on Friday; however
there are other penitential observances you may wish to adopt,
including alms giving, caring for the poor.
- Receiving Communion
- Approach the priest and Eucharistic Ministers reverently and in silence
- Accept the Host on your cupped hands, or in the mouth.
- Children who have not been confirmed may not receive the Host in their hands, nor may they drink from the chalice
- Never walk away from the priest or Eucharistic Minister holding the Host – always consume it in their presence
- It is not allowed to dip the Host in the Precious Blood by yourself. Receiving the Precious Blood is not compulsory.
Finances From the money placed in the basket, we must pay for the following:
- Rent – for the use of the building, heat and light
- Security
– to keep your cars and children safe. Given the international and
especially diplomatic nature of our community, it has been deemed
sensible to pay for the services of a security guard each Sunday from
10.30 to 13.30
- Church necessities – wine, hosts, flowers, candles, payment for substitute priests and payment for our organist
- Supporting the vocational function of the Augustinian Community and to ensure that they can provide us with spiritual support
We
receive no financial assistance from the Polish Church, Fr. Wiesław,
and the survival of the parish depend on your generosity. We ask only
that you give according to your ability, in recognition of the
self-supporting nature of our community. We sometimes run a deficit at
quiet times of the year, particularly July and August, in the hope that
we can repay our debt to the Augustinians in September. When we are in
surplus, we use the money to pay for improvements to the fabric of the
church, including painting, tiling and basic maintenance. The Parish
Council Treasurer is Giustina Cipriani. She keeps careful accounts which are always available for your scrutiny. Mass
stipends and offerings for baptisms, weddings and other celebrations
are given directly to the Priest as a traditional support of his needs.
